No I am not in favour. I go to Eymet most days. I don't park in the square. I park by the back of the church and walk everywhere but then again I am still able to.

As a new resident of Eymet (last week) I have watched this debate with interest. My parents bought this house in 1991 after their family run tool-hire business in Birmingham folded after 40 years. They blamed the double yellow lines the council painted on both sides of their road. Business dropped overnight and then died - so I'm with the traders on this. I am also able to park outside my house thank goodness - but not if I leave the house on Thursdays.
I live within a long-ish stone's throw of the square. To suggest that closng it to traffic would save a child's life and help to save the planet seems a bit rich!It would make the life of Eymet residents more difficullt - we all live with the car. I would support traffic calming though - Castilliones is another local example where it works well.

Hi Mcdermid, and welcome to our little slice of paradise.
Just a point of order, there is to be no stone throwing in the square and especially not when the Pope is visiting. We will not stand for it and neither will St Patrick. Just look what he is going to do to Thierry Henri!
Don't mention it.

Let`s get back to sanity and in context can we? This thread seems to have grown into `shut the whole square down 24/7 x365`
All I did was suggest that the square be closed to cars on summer evenings and possibly summer weekends too.
I fully realise this outrageous idea would bring about a total collapse in the economy of Eymet and subsequently the whole of the Dordogne, with the closure of every commercial outlet and the creation of a total ghost town........But just think how safe (and quiet) it will be as you sit outside your favourite (closed ) watering hole/restaurant with your picnic and flask of tea.
I always was far too revolutionary.
