I noticed that in Eymet there is a new bookshop which sells a good selection of English books and also has some lovely greetings cards.

The prices were very reasonable.

Do you mean new books or second hand?

I wonder if the owner of the website knows it's illegal in France to produce a commercial website which doesn't feature the owner's address?

I could only find it by looking via a domain web site tracker but not on their web site (unless I missed it).

I think you will find that only apples to websites registered in France that means with .FR on the end

The details feature in La Loi n° 2004-575 du 21 juin 2004.  There is no mention of having an .fr domainCommon sense suggests that the key point is if it is a French registered company falling under French commercial law not the domain ending which could be anywhere.  As the book site is registered to a SARL with a local French address, an .fr administrative and technical email address and, it's name suggests it carries out it's main business in France, it's not unreasonable to think that it might fall under French commercial law- but then I'm no lawyer but I'd be happy to hear from one.

More importantly, would you want to send money to a company who doesn't supply an address you can complain to directly if things go wrong?   I always check for an address before placing an order on the web. I've no reason to believe that they are anything other than a reputable and trustworthy company which means it has nothing to lose by publishing a contact address like most reputable websites.   The owner may not want personal callers which is understandable but that's not the issue as that could also be stated on the web site.

After looking at website, I have found that the address is on most pages . Also I have actually used this  company and I have had no problems with  ordering , payment and delivery. Its interesting that you bring this up about this site ,when alot of french based  sites including some on this very forum do not display thier address .

I found the address very easily. The web site is not brilliant ( a few bugs in it and I wasn't doing anything unusual) but it is on the page entitled 'Contact us' - where you would expect really!

Yes it is easy to find the address on two of the pages.  So why couldn't I find it before when I went to the "contact" page and everywhere else?  Just been added perhaps?

Yes, a lot of sites don't show an address but then a lot of people exceed the speed limit - that doesn't make it legal.  Anyway, with an address, I can seriously look at buyng from the site as the prices compare well with Amazon.fr once you get to their minimum purchase for free delivery and it's good to support a local company.  Well done !
