It has started - the invasion of the obvious brits.
There I was ensconced in my usual chair outside "La Gambetta" in the square in Eymet last night and to my horror they have returned.
We spotted at least three varieties of the greater socked Brit last night - the worst offender with socks and check shorts - stop this please, you know who you are - the sock police will be out next Friday we will catch you - punishment can be as harsh as a full half hour of public ridicule.
PLEASE can I beg you if you are wearing shorts and deck shoes, trainers, pumps etc. DO NOT WEAR SOCKS It makes you and your home nation look stupid and it frightens small children and animals!!

Sounds like Americans to me! Thanks for the warning Steve, I'll have to keep the dog indoors from now on!

Oh no, I can assure you it's the Brits. Ste. Foy market was full of 'em this morning. The equivilent is the wifie in her cropped, baggy, elastic waist trousers, covered with an oversize t-shirt and clumpy sandals. It has the same sort of effect on me as the sox do on you Steve.
The French can never say that the Brits are classy dressers................mind you some of the Northern working class French when they go on holiday..............

Oh come everyone, we were all first timers once and I am sure we all stood out a mile, especially being Brits. I am sure with time the realisation will come. Be fair, where would the sock industry be without us.

No sorry - socks are for winter, long trousers, sport, ladies, children. It should be totally banned for blokes between 20 and 80 wearing short shorts and footwear!

Newbies, oldies or whatever -- sox on show, with sandals & shorts are OUT; in UK or here in France.
Who buys all the nice things one see's in the shops - never see people wearing them!

| Never mind the socks, it's the legs you want to watch out for! I've recently seen some not so very pretty sights now that the sun has deigned to appear here in England. I'm far from perfect but do try not to frighten the horses!

Oh we manage to export all the 'best' of our lovely culture.
I had a flyer stuck under my windscreen wipers, at Intermarche, extolling the various 'delicacies' on offer at a local eatery, including 'giant yorkshire puds' and 'battered cod, chips and mushy peas' among other delights.
Mmm delicious!

If thats the best food Britain can offer give me the socks we dont live on the costa's but that's another story. Whats wrong with the local cuisine if your going to eat out. Last year not only did one see the socks I have seen knotted hankies for hats I suppose kiss me quick hats and the like will soon follow. Anyway its not just the socks if one hasn't bought the clothes in France its a dead give away French women would never never ever be dressed the way some British women walk around o.k. this is a general observation. but its true... tracksuit bottoms are for the gym not walking out in may be on the beach The men are the same but seeing that the men are dressed by there other halfs its no wonder.

Got to agree Mel, I've recently had holidays in Greece and Turkey and the amount of times one was offered 'British grub' was unbelievable. Turkey is famed for it's cuisine, as are the French and it's such a shame that they feel that they have to offer it to visitors. There's nothing really wrong with fish and chips, etc but let's have it BACK HOME, 'when in Rome' I say, or should that be France? I always try to eat 'native' and jolly splendid it is too.
As for our clothes sense, well.........ahem .

"BACK HOME" Thats the problem. Home for me is here has been for a long long time and always will be. A foot in both worlds doesn't work if one is to really be part of the community and not stick out like a sore thumb no matter where you live. But we were talking about holidaymakers to start with I believe, however ....

Oh careful -- you'll be getting your hand slapped. There are several members on this forum who own " english" businesses !
But don't tell them, 'cause I agree with you !!!
maureen.
I'll be getting a slapped hand too, soon.
